The DEWlep

The DEWlep is our shake-up on a classic, the darling of the Kentucky Derby, the Mint Julep. Kentucky and Ireland have a great deal in common. They both produce fine fiddlers, fine horses and fine whiskey. While musicians trade tunes and breeders trade horses, we whiskey aficionados trade recipes – like this Irish twist on a Southern classic.

The serve

This drink is a very simple mixture of fresh mint leaves, which give the drink a really fresh aroma, vanilla sugars and a dash of peach bitter to give the natural vanilla flavours in Tullamore D.E.W. that extra zest. If you're feeling fancy, try it in a Julep cup, it won't change the taste but it sure looks good.

  • First, pour 50ml Tullamore D.E.W. Original, 12.5ml white vanilla sugar syrup, dash of peach bitters and twelve mint leaves into a cup.
  • Gently muddle the mint, fill with crushed ice and then stir gently to combine.
  • Garnish with a sprig of mint and straw.
